An unprecedented two-dimensional water-chloride anionic \[(H2O)(20)(Cl)(4)](4-)\n network has been structurally identified in a hydrophobic matrix of the iron(II) compound [FeL2]Cl-2 center dot 10H(2)O (L = 4 -phenyl-2,2 :6 ,2 -terpyridine). Its intricate relief geometry has been described as a set of 10 nonequivalent alternating cycles of different sizes ranging from tetra- to octanuclear \[(H2O)(x)(Cl)(y)](y-)\(z) (x = 2-6, y = 0-2, z = 4-6, 8) fragments. |
