A complex of cadmium chloride with an N5O3 cryptand L (1,4,13,16,27-pentaaza-6,9:18,21:29,32-tribenzo-10,22,33-trioxa-bicyclop entatr-iacontane), [CdL)H2O)][CdCl4](.)0.5H(2)O (1), was synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction and NMR studies. The colourless crystals are orthorhombic, space group Pna2(1) with a=25.2257(4), b=16.5098(3), c=9.9615(1)Angstrom, Z=4, D-c=1.526gcm(-3) and R=0.0312. The Cadmium atoms in [CdL(H2O)](2+) and in [CdCl4](2-) have trigonal bipyramidal and tetrahedral coordination spheres, respectively. The conformation of the ligand in the title compound is endo-endo and the distance between the two bridgehead nitrogen atoms in L is 10.023(7)Angstrom. |
