On behalf of the Organizing Commission, it is my pleasure to invite you to attend the XXV International Conference on Organometallic Chemistry (XXV ICOMC) to be held in Lisbon in 2012 (September 2-7). It is a great honor for us to host a Conference of this series for the first time in Portugal, and I should acknowledge the former Permanent Secretary, Prof. Marvin Rausch, for kindly addressing to me an invitation to present a proposal, and also the other Members of the International Advisory Board who have approved it. The Conference will follow the highly successful previous editions of this prestigious series, namely, just to mention the closest ones, those held in Vancouver, Zaragoza, Rennes, and in Taipei. Hence, this poses an enhanced responsibility on our shoulders, but I can assure that all of us, in Lisboa, will do our best towards the achievement of another memorable scientific event.
However, its expected success will only be possible with the attendance and contribution of a good number of those who, in different places of the world, are developing their research in the overall field of Organometallic Chemistry and/or sciences akin. The scientific level of the conference will be provided by its attendants and thus you are cordially invited to join and present your best and recent scientific work orally, by poster or by poster with a flash oral presentation. Naturally the final selection of the type of presentation will have to take into account the scientific programme and facilities layout.
Not only the senior researchers are welcome, but also the younger ones which are encouraged to present their work namely via flash presentation of selected posters. The exchange of ideas and discussions among the different generations will be promoted.
All fields of Organometallic Chemistry will be considered, from fundamental to applied ones, including multidisciplinary approaches and related areas of other sciences (thus avoiding artificial boundaries).
The Conference venue is in a privileged position concerning travel requirements. Lisbon is easily reachable from any place of the world, and the airport and the main train stations are located inside the town itself (this is a unique case within the European capitals). The Conference place is also in the town and with close access to public transportation, including metro.
Attention will also be paid to the social programme, providing opportunities for mixing, musical spectacles, visits to cultural places and excursions to sites of unique natural beauty, and for tasting the typical Portuguese cuisine and … the inspiration of our wines from various demarcated regions!
I'll be most pleased to welcome you herein and I hope you will enjoy a pleasant time along all the Conference, from both scientific and social points of view.
All best wishes,
Armando J.L. Pombeiro
Chairman, XXV ICOMC
