In a new paper, Prof. João Tomé and colleagues, from Madrid, Aveiro and Coimbra Universities, describe highly efficient singlet oxygen generators based on ruthenium phthalocyanines and their evaluation on bladder cancer photodynamic therapy. The work was published as Very Important Paper, in issue 8 of Chemistry - A European Journal. 

The cover of the issue, inspired by cancer cells being destroyed by photoactivated oxygen produced by their phthalocyanine glycoconjugates under red light, was chosen by the Chemistry editors (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/toc/15213765/2020/26/8 ).
