CQE onboard new IMS associated laboratory

The provisional results of the Call for the Associated Laboratory Status (LA) were announced on February 24th. In the list of 40 applications approved by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) is Institute of Molecular Sciences (IMS), coordinated by Professor José Nuno Canongia Lopes and in which CQE is one of the three participating institutions. It involves also Centro de Investigação em Química da Universidade do Porto (CIQUP) and Centro de Química de Coimbra (CQC).

The attribution of the status and funding aims to encourage the aggregation and organization of human and material resources with the quality and dimension necessary to meet the specific objectives of national scientific and technological policy. Currently there are 270 PhD members connected to the 3 research centres supporting the IMS application, 135 of which are faculty members, 125 are researchers with non-permanent contract or scholarships and 3 have open-ended employment contracts. All three research units were previously evaluated by FCT as Excellent.

IMS has multiple partnerships in Doctoral Programs, and joint membership of the Portuguese Roadmap of Research Infrastructures of Strategic Interest. The IMS proposal was organized in 5 thematic lines, which cover the main research fields of its members, spanning from materials and soft matter to medicinal chemistry.

The evaluation panel recommended the award of the title Laboratório Associado for the period of ten years.
