Prof. Vitor Ferreira Graduated in Chemistry from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro-IQ (1976), Master's Degree in Chemistry of Natural Products from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro-NPPN (1980), Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry - University of California San Diego (1984) and postdoctoral fellow at the University of Oklahoma (1997). He was Full Professor at the Department of Organic Chemistry at Universidade Federal Fluminense between 1986-2017. He is currently Full Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology at Universidade Federal Fluminense. He is a researcher of the 1A of CNPq, Scientist of our State (since its first edition) and Full Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. Admitted in 2009 to the National Order of Scientific Merit in the Commander class. He was twice vice president of SBQ and former president of the Brazilian Society of Chemistry (2012-2014). His professional experience involves the areas of Organic Chemistry, with an emphasis on Organic Synthesis aimed at asymmetric methodologies and bioactive molecules in the areas of cancer, tuberculosis, Chagas disease. His 416 scientific works mainly involve the following topics: carbohydrates (monosaccharides), nucleosides, diazocompounds, heterocycles, naphthoquinones and sustainability. In 2011 he received the Walter Baptista Mors Medal from SBQ-Rio for his contribution to Chemistry Fluminense. In 2013 he received the Lavoisier Medal from CRQ-3a Region (RJ/ES). In 2013, he was honored by the Portuguese Chemical Society in recognition of his valuable contributions towards closer scientific relations between Brazil and Portugal. In 2014 he was appointed as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He was Pro-Rector of Research, Graduate Studies and Innovation at Universidade Federal Fluminense between 2017-2018. In December 2018, he was awarded the Angelo da Cunha Pinto Medal by the Institute of Chemistry at UFRJ. He is currently associate editor of Revista Virtual de Química between 2010-current. In 2019 he was awarded the Simão Mathias Medal by SBQ and delivered the opening conference of the Annual Meeting. He is currently Advisor to the Presidency of FAPERJ, alternate member of the Superior Council of IFRJ; Advisor to the SBQ management 2020-2022. He was included in the 2020 list as one of the most influential scientists in the world by Plos Biology magazine.
