Getting around

We are situated across three campuses: two in the city of Lisbon and one in Loures. Here’s some basic information about each: Técnico Alameda, Ciências, and Centro Tecnológico & Nuclear.

Situated in the extreme southwest of Europe, Lisbon is a magnet for students worldwide, being just a few hours away from major European capitals. At CQE, the experience extends beyond academic pursuits to include a range of complementary activities, such as scientific conferences and seminars, fostering a multidisciplinary culture. The institutions hosting CQE offer a variety of cultural activities and opportunities for physical activity and unwinding.

Alameda campus was built under the direction of Duarte Pacheco and was concluded in 1937 by Porfírio Pardal Monteiro, who created the first autonomous campus of the Portuguese university system.  Centro Tecnológico & Nuclear at Loures campus is one of the most important technology parks across the country within Instituto Superior Técnico, namely in areas related to nuclear sciences, as well as in the field of radiological protection and nuclear safety and houses the Portuguese Research Reactor and the Radiological Protection and Safety Unit.

Ciências Campus was created in 1911. Since its creation and until 1985, when it was transferred to its new facilities in Campo Grande. The FCUL facilities were in the Pombaline and neoclassic style building (Casa do Noviçado de Nossa Senhora da Assunção da Cotovia) that used to hold the Polytechnic School (Escola Politécnica), and before that other key cultural and scientific institutes, and currently the Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência.
